MEETING WITH LOLA THE BEAST

We are happy to introduce you to Lola The Beast, a stage name that says a lot about her temperament. Full of energy, self-taught, and creative, Lola is also a talented skater. Hailing from her homeland located in the heart of the Mediterranean, she has traveled many paths, with or without skates. In this interview, Lola shares her love for roller skating, her story, and some delightful anecdotes.

/Hello Lola, can you introduce yourself to the Clique, both as a person and as a skater?

My name is Lola, but that is not my real name. I am known in the Barcelona scene because I have been living here since 2014. I come from a beautiful island called Cyprus, which has a very rich and painfully interesting history. Although we are a European country and live comfortably, we never stop discussing politics, justice, and fighting for a better future for our country..

I have a background in psychology, and I am now a stylist. I am currently working on my own collection of clothing for skaters (Instagram: @rolalolaclub).

I draw my inspiration from music.

I love to read.

I love watching good movies.

I am fascinated by innovative projects aimed at changing the world.

I obviously love skating.

I could spend my life stretching.

I can't wait to be able to travel again without precautions, and yes, I absolutely love sleeping.

My skating practice is mainly focused on rhythmic skating. I enjoy floor work, acrobatics, running, and much more.

/What do you like most about being a skater?

I can instinctively say: the international community, but that comes after skating. I am lucky to have found something that gets me moving, takes me away from my thoughts, and allows me to feel free. It amuses me to think about how cliché that may sound, but it's true! Every time I put on my skates, I am immediately happy. Even if I'm not in the mood to skate, I don't mind rolling for 6 to 10 hours.

And yes, there are so many wonderful people I have had the honor of meeting throughout my life, thanks to the magic we share on our skates.

It's beautiful to see people 2-3 times a year at events and to get to know each other. We share good moments, have fun, exchange ideas, and then we return to our lives, recharged and happy to know that we will see each other again soon.

/What advice would you give to someone who wants to start skating?

First, get yourself a good pair of skates. Find local skaters to connect with. You need to know the basics first. Avoid the hype that Instagram can bring. Skating is a social activity. Practice regularly and take your time. One step at a time. Enjoy your learning. Find inspiration in your own progress, the music, the movements, and the softness of the wind in your hair. I always say that.

/What is your best memory on roller skates?

It's funny to see how many times I've been asked the question and I still can't find an answer. Well... every skate day exhausts me but makes me feel reborn from the inside.

International events in particular, all the Skatelove Festivals.

Paris Fashion Week 2019. I remember the first time I skated backward...

My first double spin... acrobatic skating.

The first time I went to a roller skate party.

In fact, every time I learn a new move, it's one of my best skate memories.

Oh, and the day my Flaneurz skates arrived (no joke)!

/How did you hear about Flaneurz?

I have known Flaneurz since the Kickstarter days and I believed in it from day one.

/What pair of Flaneurz do you own?

I have some Nike Air Force One Black, only because the white ones are out of stock worldwide, equipped with the Premium rolling part. I love them, I can't wait to get a second pair.
