LAURENCE SABAS RIDES IN FLANEURZ!
For almost a year now, Laurence Sabas has been Flaneurz ambassador. Roller coach, she follows the evolution of the Flaneurz concept in this capacity. She has been practicing for 25 years.

/25 YEARS OF ROLLER
At 13, Laurence discovers the Main Jaune. This place, a legendary nightclub for roller enthusiasts in the 90s, has been closed since 2001. Did you start with le roller en ligne or by quad skating?
At first, there was only quad skating, which was the popular practice. Then, inline skating arrived. Its success was so great that more and more skaters emerged, as inline skating was considered easier. At 20 years old, my teaching abilities were recognized by Adeline Lemen, president of the Roller Squad Institute, and it's true that I loved teaching. When she offered me the opportunity to become a teacher, I decided to pursue my state diploma.
Was your profession related to the world of roller skating?
Before finding my voice, I worked in various jobs, but I have always played sports on the side. I have always been involved in roller skating primarily for fun and leisure. I have never participated in a competition..

How did you find out about Flaneurz?
I first met Florian Gravier, one of the founders, through Jean Marc Gravier (who is not Florian's brother!), the initiator of our roller dance crew SkateXpress..
What was your first pair of Flaneurz?

In what situation do you use your Flaneurz the most? ?
I use them whenever I have the opportunity. Originally, as a dancer, I was a fan of boots with small heels. Today, with my Jordans, I feel so much more comfortable that I find it hard to put my feet back into my Italian Risport boots.
I use my Flaneurz for my daily commutes and for the various roller classes I teach: group lessons, individual lessons, or dance. They even accompany me sometimes during my performances.

How did the transition from the boot to the Flaneurz go??
Very well, I skate instinctively and I adapt to roller skates regardless of the wheels, the shoes, the models.
In your opinion, what is the advantage of the Flaneurz system??
The simplicity and practicality: I take public transport, I just need to unclip. This way, I avoid fines, and when I'm prohibited from entering a store on roller skates, I unclip, much to everyone's surprise! It also allows for communication since the Flaneurz system is intriguing..
Regarding the clip-on and clip-off system, were you able to adapt easily?
As ambassadors, we were the pioneers of the brand by testing the first models. Since then, the concept has evolved significantly. Today, the system is truly perfected, and it only takes me a few seconds to get equipped.

During your classes, how do you support beginners?
With the association Roller Squad Institut, One of the oldest roller schools, we formed a collective of instructors and developed a technical progression. Both beginners and more advanced skaters can progress by evolving their technique.

-The annual subscription with Roller Squad Institut : Group roller dance classes (29 sessions), including urban movement lessons, for €310. The 2018-2019 term will begin on September 20th, and the classes will take place every Thursday at 7:30 PM in the 13th arrondissement of Paris..

Do you regularly participate in other types of activities? ?
Since the time I have been practicing, I have participated in very diverse projects. I was first sponsored by Salomon, Paco Rabanne, and other brands. Then, I organized shows with the troupe. SkateXpress. We have performed in France and elsewhere. We have worked in nightclubs and organized events in the city. Today, the troupe has grown in size. We have participated in television shows such as " The Voice ", " Danse avec les stars ", " Le Quotidien " ou " TPMP ". We collaborate on certain projects with the troupe Roller Brass Band which brings together musicians on roller skates and gives numerous performances.
What are your plans today?
To continue developing our roller dance crew, SkateXpress. It’s a collective we want to expand on a larger scale by bringing in new dancers. The goal is to diversify the types and locations of our performances. Soon, we’ll be in London for the festival. Roll On London on July 26th and 27th.

Flaneurz was at W Paris Opéra for a moment of boutique éphémère until Sunday, June 10th. Visitors were delighted to snap on pairs from the new collection or discover those from previous ones. The event concluded with a roller dance workshop led by Laurence at the W Lounge. This isn’t the first time Laurence has hosted workshops with Flaneurz. Her infectious energy inspires all participants.
